While I’m busy going through and editing my best shots from New York, I thought I’d post an image that I shot last year of the most amazing sky that I have ever witnessed..so amazing in fact that reports of it even made then local evening news! I managed to capture this image on the road where I live and included silhouettes of the tops of houses for interesting composition and to give the image some context without distracting too much from the main subject.
Remembering 9/11
January 27th, 2009
Wondering around Central Park yesterday I came across a plaque on a bench shown in the first image, dedicated to the memory of a victim of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Centres. Actually being in New York and visiting ‘Ground Zero’ has really made me think a lot about all those affected by the events of that day and to me this plaque expresses sentiment for the loss of one person, but in turn represents the loss of everyone who died..every person is loved by someone, somewhere.
The second image shows the view of the former site of the World Trade Centres through the tombstones of St Paul’s Chapel, which is situated right next to Ground Zero. By some miracle, St Paul’s was left completely unharmed during the 9/11 attacks and was used as a place of solace and comfort by New Yorkers in the proceeding days, weeks and months. The chapel now houses lasting memorials for 9/11 and is visited frequently by visitors to NYC. Although the tombstones in the foreground of this photo are not those of victims of the attacks but do represent the 1000’s who died that day, while American flag in the midground and the view of Ground Zero in the background add context and meaning to the image.
New York, New York, so good they named it twice!

Well, it’s been confirmed, I’m officially going to New York on Saturday to visit a good friend of mine who is living and working in The Big City for the next 3 months. Although she’ll be working during the day the week I am visiting, I’m going to use the time on my own to take the camera around and about and snap some really cool shots.
